Frequently Asked Questions
What is screen resolution?
Screen resolution is the number of pixels your monitor can display, stated as width x height. A 1920x1080 screen has 1,920 columns and 1,080 rows of pixels.
What is the difference between screen resolution and viewport size?
Screen resolution is the physical display size. Viewport is the area inside your browser window available for web content. They differ because of the browser chrome (toolbar, scrollbars) and window size.
What is device pixel ratio?
Device pixel ratio (DPR) is the number of physical pixels per CSS pixel. A DPR of 2 means a retina or HiDPI display where 1 CSS pixel equals 2x2 physical pixels, producing sharper text and images.
Why does my viewport change when I resize the browser?
The viewport is the visible area inside the browser window. When you drag the window edge to resize, the available space for web content changes, which is exactly what responsive web design adapts to.
Is my screen information shared with anyone?
No. All detection uses standard browser APIs locally on your device. Nothing is sent to any server.
Is this screen checker free?
Yes. Completely free with no sign-up required.
